Good news/bad news

April 2nd, 2010 at 05:52 pm

Good news so far I've paid off $1240 in debt of my goal of $3000. Yay. I also got my e-fund up to $1048 and car insurance fund up to $95.

Bad news is the boat I work on is down for repairs on one of the busiest weekends of the year. We are hoping it will be back tomorrow, but if the rudder is not fixed in the next few hours we might be down until Monday or Tuesday because the Coast Guard needs to do an inspection. With it being a holiday weekend and people work on island time, well it does not look good. No work means no pay.

I just spent $90 on 2 bags of food. Food is just so expensive here. I could eat only rice and beans, but if I did that I know I would not stay motivated. Plus DH is a chef, food is very important to him. I'm almost done filling the pantry with some core ingredients, so hopfully I can get that down a little.

I did find a 'bargin' though. I was able to get DH's favorite cereal on sale for $3.99 (and the expiration is in Aug) instead of the normal $6.99. I bought up the last 3 boxes. Too bad the milk is still $4.50 for a half gallon.

Have a great weekend.

Just started reading you - welcome. Wow - $8 milk. It does mean that you get to be extra clever and can probably teach us a thing or two.

If you use milk strictly for drinking, this tip probably won't help, but if you use milk for everyday cooking, baking, thinning sauces and whatnot, think about trying powdered milk. That's expensive too, but it does keep forever, and its light enough that you can hit a cheaper grocery store on vacation (vacation from a paradise on the islands?) and buy it then.
